Sea Island Cotton, the original and supreme extra-long staple cotton, once reigned as the finest cotton. Cultivated in the Caribbean region, it faced devastating pest infestation at the beginning of the 20th century, ceasing its cultivation.
A hundred years passed...
Considered impossible to grow elsewhere, Sea Island Cotton made a remarkable comeback through the evolution of modern agriculture, technological advancements, and extensive research into cultivation methods. It revived in a limited area on the border between Texas and New Mexico in the United States. This cotton, deemed ""The Miracle Cotton,"" was christened American Sea Island Cotton.
- AUSTRALIAN COTTON -
Cotton grown in the vast landscapes of Australia is known as the world's whitest cotton. Thriving in conditions of drought and less fertile soil, this cotton requires less water for cultivation. Its inherent whiteness, which doesn't demand excessive bleaching, minimizes the environmental impact on our planet. Experience the natural "whiteness" firsthand.

As a result of carefully selecting raw materials from around the world, a unique yarn exclusive to Kamakura Shirts, which encapsulates polyester with cotton while considering the balance of whiteness, luster, fullness, and texture, has been completed. This spun yarn, "PALPA PREMIUM," produces wrinkle-resistant fabric. Please do enjoy the "Easy Care PALPA" series' "Easy Care Dress Shirt."
It is a wool material that can be cared for at home, combining the lightness, insulation, and moisture-wicking properties of wool. Moreover, unlike heavy and coarse wool fabrics, this fabric offers a luxurious feel with a smooth and thin texture.

I own about a dozen Kamakura OCBD, and at least 5 in the Vintage Ivy series. An extra button at the bottom of the front placket would be great for taller people, but that's just a nice to have. The shirts get better with washing, except the NAVY one. The color fades (to be expected) even with cold washing and air drying. I find it makes the shirt a little less attractive than the others. It's a common problem with dark navy cotton garments after repeated washing. I will buy more Vintage Ivy shirts for sure, just not this color.
This sweater does everything I wanted it to do and more. Casual or dressy. Cozy but never hot. An heirloom quality piece to last my lifetime and for one of my kids to inherit and enjoy. Thank you Kamakura Shirt for your good taste, and intentionality in quality execution.
