FF30-Gauge Crew Neck Sweater

This crew neck sweater is produced by one of Japan's leading knit manufacturers, located in Niigata, and is knitted using the rare "FF30G" machine, of which there is only one in the country. "FF" (Full Fashion) refers to a technique where the stitches are precisely increased and decreased, allowing for three-dimensional knitting. This results in a garment that is resistant to losing shape and provides an excellent fit that naturally conforms to the body. The fine 30-gauge knit creates a delicate and high-quality appearance.

The parts such as the collar and hem are carefully sewn by skilled craftsmen using a linking machine. The sweater maintains elasticity, offering a comfortable fit and easy on-and-off wear.

The yarn used is the rare "Super 120 Super Extra Fine Merino." By knitting this high-quality material on the FF30G machine, the sweater achieves an unparalleled elegance and luxurious feel.

Thanks to its thin and smooth texture, the sweater avoids bulkiness and is suitable for various layered styles. It is especially ideal for business attire, pairing excellently with sleek worsted wool suits.

■ Super Extra Fine Merino Typically, fine merino wool is 20-21 microns, and extra fine merino is 18.5-19.5 microns. However, merino wool at 17.5 microns is extremely rare and is referred to as "Super Extra Fine Merino."

A luxurious knit collection crafted using the rare FF30G (Gauge), offering the highest level of quality. In addition to the lightweight, stress-free comfort unique to knitwear, this piece delivers a smooth and delicate feel against the skin, providing an exceptional wearing experience.

What is FF30G?

FF stands for "Full Fashion machine," a rare knitting machine of which only a few exist in Japan. It allows for increasing and decreasing stitches while knitting, creating shapes that conform to the curves of collars and sleeves during the knitting process. This results in a garment that fits the body perfectly. The fabric, densely knit, is thin yet firm, making it resistant to losing its shape.

To create the finest knitwear with FF30G, the quality of the materials is crucial. Poor-quality materials can lead to difficulties in knitting, broken threads, or coarse stitches, which diminish the visual appeal.

The Super120 Super Extra Fine Merino wool used in this piece offers a luxurious feel along with moisture-wicking, insulation, and breathability. When this yarn is knit with FF30G, it results in a smooth texture and an elegant sheen, producing what can be described as a "dress knit," akin to the refinement of a dress shirt.

(G refers to the density of the knitting machine's needles. Knits of 12G and higher are considered "high gauge," and as the gauge increases, the fabric becomes more refined and dressy.)

The highlight is the ribbed sections on the collar and hem. With regular sewing machines, the stretchiness of the fabric may be compromised when stitched together.

To prevent this, a special technique called linking is used to connect the ribbing and the main fabric, preserving the natural flexibility of the knit. Linking is a meticulous process where a needle passes through each stitch individually to join the pieces.

This is especially labor-intensive for FF30G due to its extremely fine stitches, requiring artisans to thread each stitch by hand. This level of craftsmanship and time investment makes FF30G a symbol of luxury in high-gauge knitwear.

STYLE

The finely textured knit unique to FF30G pairs exceptionally well with formal attire. In business settings, it enhances a sophisticated and refined look when combined with glossy suits or jackets.

At the same time, it boasts versatility, seamlessly matching with casual items like denim or chinos. This makes it a garment that can effortlessly elevate a wide range of styles, from formal to casual.
