About GIZA96
A type of Egyptian cotton, one of the world’s three great cottons. Among Giza cotton varieties (numbered in the order they were developed), GIZA96 is the newest extra-long staple strain.
Its fibers are rich in natural oils, giving the fabric a refined sheen and luxuriously smooth handfeel.
Origin
Produced in Nishiwaki City, Hyogo Prefecture, one of Japan’s leading cotton-weaving regions.
The fabric’s supple drape and graceful fall are achieved through the combination of skilled craftsmanship and a rich natural environment.
Fabric & Material Highlights
Woven from 100-count two-ply broadcloth (poplin) at the “golden ratio” of 144 warp threads × 76 weft threads.
Uses yarn-dyeing—a hallmark of “Banshu-ori,” the traditional weaving technique named after the historic Harima region during the Meiji era.
Unlike piece dyeing, where the entire fabric is dyed after weaving, yarn-dyeing colors the threads beforehand, requiring more time and cost but resulting in intricate patterns and a rich, nuanced depth of color.
