Ametora is Japanese slang for “American traditional” — the East Coast collegiate style that forged the Japanese menswear industry in the 1960s. Our Ametora button-down offers an authentic recreation of the dress shirts commonly seen on Madison Avenue in the 1950s. The shirt body uses the looser fit of that era, and the long collar, at 3.5-inches, is perfect for wearing with a necktie and navy blazer or for staying visible under a sweater. Other Ivy-style details include a box pleat at back, gathered sleeves on barrel cuffs, and the widely spaced six-front buttons.
This linen is japanese woven fabric.
It is beautiful and natural as the fabric has a natural texture because it undergoes a natural finishing process.

*Please note:
Have a few Kamakura shirts now and like them all, but this linen one is the new favourite. The fabric is sturdy but has a softer hand feel than lesser quality linen while still draping nicely. The white is a creamy white, more wearable IMO than if it were a brighter white. And the Ametora cut, which people should know is a little roomier than the Vintage Ivy shirts, is comfortable and looks very classic.
the sizing is really weird. I ordered a 15 and a half (collar) as I usually do with other makers ... yes the collar size is perfect, but unlike any other 15+half shirt I own, the shirt is really over-sized and the sleeves are way too long!! Luckily it is pure linen, so hot-washing it 3 times shrunk it down to size. I would like to buy more shirts like this, but I don't need the surprises or the extra work!
I've worn this shirt all summer long. On its own and with a suit and it always looks great. The roomy fit is perfect for a linen shirt
The ametora cut is my favourite and I always hoped for a linen version! More colour options would be great.
Breezy fit and comfortable linen makes this perfect for hot weather. Love the classic details.
This shirt is another work of art. Looks fantastic and is just a super cool shirt. As I mentioned in another review, I ordered a full size up.
I own about a dozen Kamakura OCBD, and at least 5 in the Vintage Ivy series. An extra button at the bottom of the front placket would be great for taller people, but that's just a nice to have. The shirts get better with washing, except the NAVY one. The color fades (to be expected) even with cold washing and air drying. I find it makes the shirt a little less attractive than the others. It's a common problem with dark navy cotton garments after repeated washing. I will buy more Vintage Ivy shirts for sure, just not this color.
absolutely top quality shirts love it
This sweater does everything I wanted it to do and more. Casual or dressy. Cozy but never hot. An heirloom quality piece to last my lifetime and for one of my kids to inherit and enjoy. Thank you Kamakura Shirt for your good taste, and intentionality in quality execution.
