Regular price $190.00Kyoto Store & Online Exclusive – Botanical Dye (Sakura) Linen Shirt
Product Details
A beautifully soft pink linen shirt, dyed using cherry blossoms from Taizoin Temple in Kyoto, is now available as a limited store-exclusive item.
The dye is made from “fallen petals that have completed their role,” carefully collected by our Kyoto store staff within the temple grounds.
This process creates a gentle yet richly layered hue that can only be achieved with natural sakura.
Taizoin’s Cherry Blossoms
Taizoin, a Zen temple founded in the Muromachi period, is one of Kyoto’s most renowned cherry blossom viewing spots. Among them is the iconic 60-year-old weeping cherry tree, “Motonobu no Sakura,” along with many others that paint the temple grounds in a scene reminiscent of a traditional ink painting. The reflection of the blossoms on the Yokoen Garden pond quietly captivates all who visit.

What is Botanical Dye?
Botanical dye is an advanced evolution of traditional Japanese plant-based dyeing techniques. As the name suggests, it uses natural materials such as plants, flowers, and fruits to create dyes for fabrics like cotton and wool.
Unlike conventional natural dyeing—which typically uses around 20% natural ingredients along with chemical agents to fix the color—botanical dyeing uses a special binding method that allows over 60% natural dye content to adhere to the fibers. This results in a more environmentally friendly and skin-safe process.
Additionally, since a single plant can contain over 100 different pigment components, botanical dyeing achieves a depth and richness of color that cannot be replicated with synthetic dyes.

*Please note:
I’d been eyeballing this blazer and a similar style from J.Press for awhile now.
I pulled the trigger, actually ordered it in both 40 and 42 not knowing which would be best.
I’m 51 years old, 5-9-1/2in and 195lbs
The size 40 is perfect in every way, not too tight or too loose, sleeves and length all perfect.
I even took it to two tailor shops and both said it was spot on.
I haven’t been this happy with a menswear purchase in years and I’m a huge menswear guy.
I’m confident you’ll love this too. I feel like I could walk into 1959 Princeton right now and fit in. Sadly probably as a professor!
Great overshirt! Never experienced heavy linen before and it's great. Doesn't wrinkle as much as less heavy ones. Would be awesome if Kamakura shirts offered more heavy linen clothing such as trousers, etc. And some more information of the fabric, like g/m², in the description. Will definitely buy more!
Just purchased my 3rd Ametora OCBD - they are absolute perfection in terms of cut and comfort and the delivery service from Japan is excellent. I cannot recommend them enough.
Very happy with this blazer.
Classic shape and style and the unlined transparency makes it perfect for summer.
Well done Kamakura !
