Introducing our 8th collection: the 'Chambray Shirt Collection.'
Ōmichi from the Men's Shirt Planning Department shares all the details.
Hello everyone, this is Ōmichi.
Thank you for your continued support of Kamakura Shirts. Today I will be talking about the 'Indigo Chambray Shirt Collection.'
Chambray refers to a type of fabric that is woven with different threads for the warp and weft. However, when most people hear 'chambray,' they think of indigo chambray, which uses indigo-dyed threads—like those used in denim—for the warp. Indigo chambray has strong ties to American workwear, and it has spread explosively, becoming a staple in menswear.
So, how can we propose this indigo chambray in a way that is characteristic of Kamakura Shirts?
We wanted to find a refined chambray fabric that could be paired with a tailored jacket and worn as business attire. The fabric we finally found has indigo-dyed warp threads and white weft threads that blend well together, resulting in a subdued, muted blue chambray.
The secret to this unique coloration lies in the special warp threads, which are created using a combination of 'indigo dyeing + sulfur dyeing' techniques on 20-count threads. The blue warp threads fade gently over time, softening the contrast between the warp and the white weft threads, giving the fabric a calm and sophisticated appearance.
This Chambray Collection is being introduced as dress shirts. By featuring styles unique to dress shirts, such as regular collars and tab collars, the look of chambray shirts, which are often associated with casual wear, will be transformed. Pairing them with a tie and a navy jacket will complete a traditional style.
