Beautifully made, nice fabric and very nice shade of pale blue. I was a bit unsure about sizing, so I contacted customer service with my measurements (and a couple of other questions). The response was quick and very helpful – I was advised to get a size 42. Still a bit skeptical, I decided to order two sizes, 42 and 41, and the 41 fitted perfectly out of the bag, so I sent 42 back. However, after washing the shirt, it has shrunk just that tiny bit to make me regret my choice. It is not unwearable, but the 42, after shrinkage, would have been perfect, just like I was told. The shrinkage is very clearly indicated in the size chart to be 2%, which I think is completely normal, and if you do the math (I didn’t) that equates to a little less than one full size at the chest (3% between 41 and 42). So, in conclusion, the sizing issue was 100% my own mistake, but now I know exactly what size to get next time.
I would love to see more options available in the NY classic fit (or “untucked”), especially when it comes to collars (there is of course the possibility of MTO). The “sport” looks great for less formal button-down. One option that I can’t find, even in MTO, is a casual unlined point collar - this would be very useful too.
Wonderful product. Very good quality cloth, nice color, very elegant yet understated cut. Can’t wait to order another shirt
Love this jacket and the ivy details. That being said, I have a few small critiques that I'd like to see addressed on future jackets:
1. I wish the arm holes were higher, they restrict movement quite a bit.
2. I wish the Medium size were an inch or so longer. The length is acceptable, but slightly short for my height and taste. The Large size was much too big in the body and sleeves too long for me, so that wasn't an option either.
All things considered, this is a very well made and attractive jacket, and I'm thrilled that Kamakura is making these with such a keen eye for details.
Dear Nicholas,
Thank you for your feedback! We're glad you love the jacket and its details. We'll consider your suggestions on the arm holes and length for future designs. Your support means a lot to us—thank you!
The fit and color of these socks is better than what I had expected and by the way, I expected a lot. The crew color is beautiful and the fit of the socks is excellent. I have worn them with jeans and I have worn them with khakis and with a variety of style of shoes And the added touch that they add is terrific. I suggest you buy all three colors and buy multiple pairs of each. You will find them in rotation often I love the quality.
Was originally excited to purchase from Kamakura.
In fairness, the shirt is well-constructed. The stitching is very tight, and many little details (buttons, reinforcement, etc.) is well done.
I purchased the shirts after having someone take my measurements and, importantly, seeking the input of a representative of Kamakura. It was recommended to me by the Kamakura representative to purchase the shirts in New York Slim fit a size smaller than what my measurements and gut said.
Upon receiving the shirts, I was disappointed to learn that they were a bit tighter than what I was hoping for. Under the pecs and the shoulders were just tighter than anticipated.
The most unfortunate part is the return policy. While knowing that return shipping is to be the responsibility of the purchaser, upon inquiring with various shipping companies, I quickly realized it is cost prohibitive (well over the cost of a single shirt) to send my not-quite-right shirts back to Japan from Canada.
Ultimately, I’m now stuck with several beautiful shirts that don’t fit exactly right.
Purchasers take the fit and sizing with a grain of salt.
