Taking a cue from another reviewer’s testimony (of similar proportions), at 6’0 175lbs., I opted for the size 16. (Looking for a bit more of a fitted silhouette.) In this shirt, the choice was spot on. Dare I say typical…[probably more apropos to say, as expected], Kamakura/Japanese quality. Not a missed stitch.
This is the perfect Fall alternative to the pressed cotton white shirt.
My fourth Kamakura shirt, and certainly not my last!
The corduroy is simply luxurious, yet masculine. The teal color is bold, yet soft. Not as thick as I expected, which is good as I tend to run hot.
The stitching is excellent, buttons and holes are clean, and the collar sits perfectly—not as big as some of the historical shirts, but I prefer it this way. I would have preferred an additional button below, and stitched a bar tack on the cuff for a better sleeve roll.
I'm 5'11", 180 lbs with a broader chest/shoulders and slim arms, and the 16.5 works well as a relaxed-fitted shirt for me. I have a size Large in the Tokyo 134 fit--the sizing chart would suggest this 16.5 is a touch wider and longer, but it ended up larger than I expected. I presume that a 16 would also fit, but I'm digging the relaxed look as I enter my early thirties. Will likely stick to 16.5 in the future. Given my height, the sleeves are a touch long (but passable), and the shirt is only suitable to be tucked in as-is—I'm considering taking some length off.
Customer service is A+, helpful with Q&As, and shipment was lightning fast to Canada.
My father had a soft, ample corduroy shirt when I was growing up 50 years ago. I’ve finally found the direct descendant.
